Pedestrian dies after collapsing on highway

MOUNTAIN VIEW — A pedestrian who had reportedly appeared distressed while walking on State Route 85 on Thursday afternoon collapsed, was taken to the hospital and was later pronounced dead, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The incident was reported at about 2:40 p.m. on State Route 85 near El Camino Real, said CHP Officer Art Montiel. Officers arrived to find the pedestrian collapsed by the side of the highway. An ambulance arrived to take the person to the hospital.

No vehicle was involved in the incident, and the preliminary investigation indicates that the person may have suffered a drug overdose. The Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
