Johnny Depp explained homosexuality to young Christina Ricci

Christina Ricci credits Johnny Depp with teaching her more about the world.

The “Addams Family” star, 42, who in 1999 went on to star alongside Depp, 59, in “Sleepy Hollow,” said that a decade earlier, he’d taught her what being gay means.

“Johnny is actually the person who explained to me what homosexuality was when I was 9,” Ricci said on Andy Cohen’s SiriusXM show this week.

While on the set of 1990 dramedy “Mermaids,” Ricci said “someone was not being nice to someone else and they were like, ‘Oh, well he might be homophobic,’ and then I was like, ‘Well I don’t understand what that is.’ And I was in [costar] Winona [Ryder]’s trailer and she was like, ‘I don’t know how to —’ so she put me on the phone with Johnny. And Johnny explained it to me … in like the simplest terms.”

Ryder, 50, and Depp were together for four years — and even got engaged before going their separate ways in 1993.

The “Pirates of the Caribbean” star told Ricci that being gay is “‘when a man wants to have sex with a man and when a woman wants to have sex with a woman.’ And I was like, ‘Oh, OK,’” she recalled.

Given that Cher, an icon of the LGBTQ community, played the mother to Ricci and Ryder’s characters in the film, “Real Housewives” executive producer Cohen, 54, was baffled the pair didn’t just ask her to explain homosexuality.

“I know, we should’ve run right over there,” Ricci said.
