OAKLAND — Two people were shot Tuesday afternoon near Oakland City Hall, authorities said.
Their conditions were not immediately available.
The shooting happened about 2:15 p.m. in the area of 14th Street and Broadway. One of the victims was apparently shot in the chest, authorities said.
A suspect was seen running northbound on Broadway after the shooting, authorities said. A motive for the shooting was under investigation.
Streets in the downtown area were blocked off while police investigated.
A City Council meeting was happening at the time of the shooting, but went into recess once word was received of the shooting, authorities said.
The shootings happened hours after a series of other shootings in the city left two people dead and several others injured.
